Over the weekend, the Red Cross Society of Nigeria carried out an investiture ceremony for pop singer,
2face Idibia. This happened at a press conference to announce a partnership between
2face Idibia’s Million Voices for Peace campaign and the Red Cross Society of Nigeria.
The partnership with the Red Cross Society of Nigeria seeks to explore
areas of collaboration in raising awareness on the needs of Persons
affected by violence in Nigeria with the aim of mobilizing support for
them. Through this initiative 2face Idibia joins a list of renowned celebrities who have shown commitment in speaking up for some of the world’s most vulnerable groups.
Mr Umoh, The Lagos zonal program officer for the Red Cross Society of Nigeria stated that it is hoped that 2face's
example will inspire others to show more commitment in supporting on
going peace efforts in the country while mobilizing support in aid of
affected victims of conflict in Nigeria.
An excerpt from a speech by 2face at the
conference goes thus “Today we take a big step in improvising the plight
of internally Displaced persons in Nigeria through our Partnership with
the Nigerian Red Cross Society”. He continued “My colleagues and I have
followed closely the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross society and I
must confess that we are inspired and excited at the chance to support
this cause”
Some months back, a song ‘Break the Silence’ was released by the Million
Voices for Peace campaign. Proceeds from the sale of the song will go
towards supporting the work of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria. The Red
Cross is one of the leading humanitarian organizations working to
alleviate the sufferings of victims of war, conflicts and other natural
disasters in the country and around the world.
This partnership comes at a very special time in the nation’s history as
recent reports show that Nigeria has the highest number of internally
displaced persons in the country.
The Million Voices for Peace is a campaign running under the umbrella of the 2face Idibia Reach-out Foundation.
